This is about the Resilience of
159 'Survivor Trees' that continue to survive
the 1945 Atom bombing of Hiroshima.
Following the A-bomb blast, approximately 170 survivor trees that were within or near a 2km radius of ground zero, budded anew.
This website honours these 'hibaku jumoku' Survivor trees.

Connecting humanity and trees
Celebrating Resilience of Survivor Trees
Historians, foresters, and Hiroshima city archivists estimate that before the atomic bomb was dropped on 6 August 1945, there were around 70,000 trees throughout Hiroshima. Within the hypocenter area, the fireball and subsequent firestorm destroyed almost all vegetation within a 2-km radius. An incredible 170 trees were documented as survivors within or near this zone, and today the city cares for the 159 remaining hibaku jumoku (“survivor trees”).
